A 25-year-old Wismar, Linden resident was on Tuesday found guilty on two counts of rape of a child under the age of 16 by a 12-member jury at the High Court.

Keon Lawson known as ‘Crash’ was on trial before Justice Simone Morris-Ramlall.

The first count stated that Lawson between November 1 – 30, 2014, in the county of Demerara he engaged in sexual activity with a six-year-old girl.

The second count stated that Lawson on October 6, 2017, he engaged in sexual activity with the same victim when she was nine-years-old.

Lawson was represented by Attorney-at-law George Thomas while the State was represented by prosecutors Teriq Mohammed and Nefeeza Baig.

The jury, after deliberating for over two hours, found Lawson guilty of the two charges.

In response to the verdict, Lawson said “I’m sorry” as his attorney made an application for a probation report to be prepared before he is sentenced.

Sentencing was deferred until January 6, 2020.
