Two of the most favoured school football teams from the hinterland, Annai Secondary and Desrey Caesar Fox Secondary, commonly called Waramadong, will clash in the semi-finals of the KFC Goodwill Under-18 tournament on Friday.

It’s a dream match-up for two school teams who have enormous following and without question immense talent, ingredients necessary for a thrilling clash from 17:00h at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue.

News Room Sport spoke to both camps on the eve of the epic encounter and they mentioned their eagerness to be at their best in what they expect to be gruelling clash.

Ameir Robertson, captain of Annai, said his team has been hard at work and they are confident they can topple the opposition. Key to success would be remaining calm under pressure and not being distracted by what should be a massive crowd in attendance.

He added that it would be great to defeat Waramadong to set up a possible rematch with Shiva Boys Hindu College of Trinidad and Tobago. The Trinis inflicted the sole defeat to Annai in the tournament.

Annai’s goalkeeper, Leston Smith, said they have to improve their defence against a group who seems to be very attacking in their approach.

On the other hand, Waramadong have had a perfect tournament, winning both of their group matches in convincing fashion and according to captain Cecil Bascome, the two months of preparation is paying off.

Bascome was reminded of the thriller the two teams produced in during the semi-final of the Digicel Football tournament in 2017. Annai came back from four goals down to win 7-5.

Stating that he was not a part of that team, it is still a memory that resonates with the players and without doubt they will look to make amend in the first meeting since.

Assistant Captain, Nick Bascome called on his teammates to be even more aggressive from the onset.

The second semi-final will commence at 19:00h and features the defending champions, Shiva Boys against Lodge Secondary.
