Police are investigating the death of a pensioner whose burnt body was discovered on Christmas Day under his badly burnt house in Region Nine.
According to information from the police, the discovery was made by the man’s grandson, 34-year-old Troy Johnny, a farmer of 134 Tabatinga, Lethem Central Rupununi.
Johnny told Police that he went to visit his grandfather, Radie Johnny, who resides about 300 meters from the Takatu Bridge for the festive season. He related that upon arrival at the house around 15:00hrs, he noticed a body burnt beyond recognition laying under the house which was also burnt but still standing.
Troy said he last visited the pensioner some two months ago.
He also said he knew of his grandfather living with his son, Rudy Johnny, in the wooden house.
The body is presently at the Lethem Regional Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem.
The Police investigation is ongoing.
