Christmas morning fight at Berbice club leaves one dead

Police in Berbice are investigating the murder a man at a night club at Portuguese Quarters, Corentyne. 

Dead is Carlos ‘Tony’ Williams ,30, a driver of Lot 267 Rose Hall Reef, Corentyne Berbice.

The incident occurred at about 03:20 hrs on Wednesday.

Police reported that Williams, along with his reputed wife Charlene Harry and friends including businessman Paul Grant, 28, of Plaisance, East Coast Demerara were drinking at a club.

Williams reportedly stepped out of the club and when about ten minutes had passed without him returning, his wife went looking for him.

She found her husband and a man known as “Babba” involved in a scuffle on the parapet. The woman told Police that she intervened and tried to get them to stop, but “Babba” stabbed her to her left thigh.

The businessman, Paul Grant, then also intervened and the suspect lashed him to the left side of his jaw.

The suspect then allegedly took a sharp object and stabbed Williams to the abdomen and escaped.

Williams was taken to Port Mourant Public Hospital where he succumbed while receiving medical attention; Paul Grant and Charlene Harry were treated and discharged.

The body of the deceased is presently lying at Ramoo’s Funeral Home awaiting a post-mortem examination.
