    Five fishermen on Christmas Day faced over $1M in losses after a fire of unknown origin ravaged several shacks in which they stored their boat engines and seins at Ogle, East Coast Demerara.

    The fire started just after 5pm at Ogle Street North of Sea Wall, ECD.

    Police information revealed that one of the fishermen was informed of the fire and rushed to the scene after which the Guyana Police Force and the Guyana Fire Service were informed. However, the shacks were destroyed in a short time.

    Suraj Ramchandar, 42, of Better Hope, East Coast Demerara lost one 15 HP engine valued $515.000; Bernard Perriera, 42, of Lot 26 Prince William Street, Plaisance, East Coast Demerara lost four bundles of sein valued $240.000; and Jerome Perriera, of Lot 206 Well Street Better Hope, also on the East Coast, lost one (15) HP Yamaha value $250.000.

    No one was injured in the fire.
