Full statement from the ERC
The Ethnic Relations Commission (ERC) takes this opportunity to extend best wishes to all our Guyanese brothers and sisters, both here and overseas, for this Christmas Season.
It is a joyous time and one that is characteristic of sharing and goodwill to all mankind. It is therefore the Commission’s fervent hope that these traits will continue to prevail and that our collective thoughts and prayers will be with the less fortunate and with those who, for whatever reason, are unable to share in the spirit of the season.
May they continue to benefit from the unbridled generosity and compassion that Guyanese have come to exemplify. These efforts become invaluable for the upliftment of humanity and universal peace.
As we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ in this festive season upon us, the Commission encourages all to ponder and draw upon its significance given the vital lessons of love and peace which are pertinent for a multiethnic, multireligious and multicultural society like Guyana.
Christmas, like many of our national holidays, has transcended religious boundaries and is epitomized by the participation of Guyanese from all backgrounds. This, as evident in our national observances, has been the bedrock of providing opportunities to bring our people together.
As we come together in the ensuing celebrations, let’s renew our commitments to collectively work towards promoting tolerance and harmony among us all. It is a task that necessitates national efforts and one with an outcome that every citizen desire. It is therefore in our interest and that of our country that each endeavor to do his/her bit to sustain and build upon mutual respect and togetherness.
The messages that are associated with this season offer much inspiration to drive our collective thinking and actions for the purpose of national unity and harmony.
