A driver who was this morning killed in an accident has been identified as 28-year-old Vijai Sankar of Vergenoegen, East Bank Essequibo.
Sankar was the driver of motorcar PWW 9100 which crashed a lamp post and then into a fence on the side of the Uitvlugt Public Road, West Coast Demerara
The accident occurred at about 03:15hrs Thursday. Police said Sankar was the lone occupant of the vehicle.
Police said Sankar was speeding when the accident occurred and had to be removed from the mangled vehicle by the Guyana Fire Service (GFS) which responded to the scene.
He was taken to the Leonora Cottage Hospital in an unconscious condition where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The body is presently at Ezekiel mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
