Young interior mines worker found dead with stab wounds

Police have arrested two persons for the murder of a 22-year-old man of Lethem, Region Nine which occurred on Christmas Day.

A statement from police headquarters on Saturday noted that the body of Samuel Gonsalves called “Amo” was discovered on a trail near Kuribrong at about 18:30hrs on December 25.

The body bore two suspected stab wounds to the left side chest.

Reports are that Gonsalves, of Tabatinga, Lethem, was employed by a gold miner of Moruca, North West District and working a 4-inch land dredge at Obanna Backdam.

He received his payment in raw gold on December 23 and went to the landing with his friends where he was imbibing.

According to police, Gonsalves continued drinking on Christmas Eve Day and left for the backdam at about 12:00hrs on Christmas Day.

At about 18:30hrs, the body was found by a ranger who promptly informed the police.

The body is at the Mahdia Hospital mortuary awaiting a post mortem as the investigation continues.
