A 26-year-old miner is in a critical condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC) after he was shot several times about the body early on New Year.
Alexander Britton of Bagotstown, East Bank Demerara received gunshot injuries to the left arm, right thigh and buttocks.
Police Headquarters reported that the shooting occurred at about 03:00hrs Wednesday at Cooper Street, Albouystown.
According to reports Britton was standing on the western pavement of Cooper Street, when an unidentifiable male came from the southern side of the said street and discharged several shots at him and escaped on foot.
Britton collapsed and was taken to GPHC, where he is currently undergoing surgery. Police said his condition is listed as critical but stable.
Investigators discovered seventeen 9mm spent shells at the scene. Investigations are ongoing.
