Top Cop urges ranks to win citizens’ respect and trust as promotions announced

Commissioner of Police, Leslie James on New Year’s Day announced the promotion of hundreds of Officers, Inspectors and other Ranks of the Guyana Police Force.

In his New Year’s message accompanying the announcement, the Top Cop urged the ranks to work to advance the force by maintaining public security, public safety and trust and confidence.

“We must continue to win the respect and trust among the citizenry through exemplary conduct and professionalism,” he noted.

The Commissioner said, “promotion comes from God.” He added that it is a reward for hard work, invaluable dedication, conscientiousness and selfless attitude.

The Top Cop added that those who were promoted demonstrated understanding of their roles and purposes and responsibilities.

“It is the demonstration of the understanding of your roles, purposes and responsibilities. It is and must be seen as a reward for the unconditional serving and maintenance of zealously guarding our ideals. Your stellar performances have merited your achievement to embrace the gold standard,” he said.

As the force completes another year, the Commissioner said it has completed the first year of its Strategic Management Plan and established a Police Reform Change Board (PRCB) to coordinate the plan.

The force has also implemented a Crime Strategies with Temporal and Spatial Analysis approaches and Operation “Safe Roads”.

Commissioner James noted that while there has been a decrease in serious crimes, there has been an 8% increase in road fatalities.
