Georgetown businessman arrested for discharging loaded firearm

A businessman of East Ruimveldt, Georgetown was on Wednesday arrested for indiscriminately discharging a loaded firearm at Broad Street.

Police did not name the businessman who is a licensed firearm holder, or disclose the nature of his business but noted that he was arrested at around 06:15hrs.

According to information received, four police officers were on patrol duty in La Penitence when they heard two loud explosions that appeared to be gunshot coming from the Broad Street area.

The ranks proceeded to the area and upon arriving, noticed the businessman with a black gun in his right hand. He was also intoxicated at the time.

The businessman was asked if he is a licensed firearm holder and produced his license.

According to the police, he was told of the allegation and arrested while his firearm a .32 Taurus pistol was seized and lodged. The area was checked and two .32 spent shells were found and lodged but the businessman has refused to have his hands swab and remains in custody assisting with the investigation.
