Tuschen robbery: Bandit shot dead, other wounded

One bandit was on Friday night shot and killed at Tuschen Housing Scheme, East Bank Essequibo (EBE) after attempting to rob a Chinese restaurant.

Commander of Region Three, Simon McBean told the News Room that the so far unidentified bandit along with another was reportedly shot by the owner of the property.

According to information reaching the News Room, the men along with another male and female invaded the restaurant, a stone’s throw away from the Tuschen outpost at about 21:00hrs.

Reports are that three men and one woman entered the Chinese restaurant and took the owner and tied up a customer before forcing the restaurant owner and his wife into their apartment which is located in the same yard. The men demanded cash and valuables but it is unclear whether they were able to retrieve anything.

The owner of the building who resides next door reportedly heard a commotion and went to investigate. He was confronted by one of the suspects armed with a cutlass.

The proprietor told the News Room that he used his licensed gun and fired in the direction of the suspects who returned fire when one shouted “shoot he! Shoot he!” before escaping into a waiting car.

The homeowner gave chase and contacted the Police who set up a roadblock at Den Amstel, West Coast Demerara (WCD) and captured the men in their escape car – PTT 8606.

Two of the suspects were taken into custody while the third was transported to the hospital nursing one gunshot wound. It is unclear what happened to the woman.
