79-y-o cyclist crushed to death on Enmore Railway Embankment

A cyclist was crushed to death by a truck on Friday at about 12:35hrs on the Enmore Railway Embankment, East Coast Demerara.

The dead man was identified as 79-year-old Francis Lopes of 7^th Street, North Enmore.

According to reports, the truck involved in the accident was coming from Berbice and heading to Georgetown and when its occupants stopped to purchase food.

The truck was being driven by 37-year-old Vidyanand Simbudyal of Logwood, Enmore.

Just after the truck pulled off, it collided with cyclist who was crossing the road, killing him on the spot.

Police said the driver said he did not see anything on the road, but felt an impact to the truck’s rear wheel.

After stopping and investigating, he discovered Lopes’ lifeless body lying on the roadway.
