A man accused of pulling down political activitist and People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) supporter, Mitra Mohan, from a utility pole at Westminster, West Bank Demerara, was arrested early Friday.

Police Headquarters reported that the incident occurred on Sunday last at the White Shop in Westminster.

According to Mohan, he and three other PPP supporters were mounting flags on utility poles when the man confronted him while he was on the ladder.

The man subsequently pulled him down and then proceeded to pull off the party’s flags, after which he escaped.

The confrontation between APNU and PPP/C activists

Police said he was arrested at his home in Westminster at about 04:20hrs and is currently in custody assisting with the investigation.

Over the past week, PPP activists were chased out of Sophia and prevented from going through Laing Avenue, West Ruimveldt, Georgetown.

The videos of the incidents were posted on Facebook.

The party also reported to Commissioner of Police, Leslie James, that known supporters of the Coalition have been removing PPP/C’s party flags and branded paraphernalia from utility poles in Region’s Two, Three, and Five.

General Secretary of the A Partnership for National Unity (APNU), Joseph Harmon, has since condemned attacks on activists of the PPP. He had told the News Room, that every political party should be allowed to campaign freely.
