Police are investigating the intrusion of a mining camp in which a 38-year-old miner was chopped about his body by an intruder at his Seaman landing, Mazaruni river camp.

The News Room understands that at about 01:15 hours on Thursday, Kedrick Jones and his reputed wife Verna Jameson were in their camp sleeping when he heard a strange sound. Upon investigating, he was confronted by a man.

Police said Jones approached the suspect and an argument ensued followed by a scuffle. The suspect managed to escape but armed himself with a cutlass and dealt Jones, who was trailing him, several chops about his body.

Jones was chopped to his head, next, shoulders and middle and index fingers.

He managed to return to the camp where his wife was able to strap the wounds with cloth and later transported him to the Issano Health post where he was referred to the Bartica Hospital.

The police later arrested Audwayne Giddings, 29, a miner of Barnwell North Mocha, East Bank Demerara (EBD) in connection with the incident.
