Georgetown Football Club (GFC) sealed their spot in the ‘final four’ after a close battle with Santos Under-20 when the quarter-final round of the Turbo Energy Drink Football tournament concluded Sunday evening at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue.

Both GFC and Santos U-20 had a strong base of youth players on show and it was even more evident with the enthusiasm on display.

Possession was physically sought after and there was a constant back and forth offensive play, which kept spectators on the edge of their seats.

A foul in the penalty area gave Santos a chance to take the lead after some close chances, and captain Marcus Wilson effortlessly scored from the spot in the 19th.

Deon Alfred then brought it level for the Bourda unit in the 38th minute. It was until additional time that Paul Fields scored for GFC to secure the victory.

In the earlier match, Northern Rangers won 2-0 on penalty kicks after a goalless affair with Riddim Squad. GFC would now face Rangers in the second semi-final from 21:00h.

Friday’s quarter-finals saw Pouderoyen advanced after a 6-5 win on penalty kicks, ending the Buxton U-20 run in the tournament.

Fruta Conquerors U-20 will face Pouderoyen in the first semi-final from 19:00h after they defeated Buxton Stars 3-2. The semi-finals will be contested on Sunday (January 19), followed by the final on January 26.
