Commonwealth Adviser in Guyana

Commonwealth Senior Technical Adviser Dr. Afari Gyan, a Ghanaian academic, political scientist and election administrator, has arrived in Guyana ahead of the March 2 elections.

Dr. Gyan was Chairman of the Electoral Commission of Ghana from 1993 to 2015.

On Tuesday, he met with the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM), Chief Elections Officer (CEO) and Chairperson Justice (ret’d) Claudette Singh.

GECOM’s Public Relations Officer Yolanda Ward told the media that “a team from the Secretariat is also in country to do some advance preparations for the observer mission.”

The other adviser Dr. Syed Nasim Ahmad Zaidi from India, will arrive by the end of the month. He served as 20th Chief Election Commissioner of India. He is also a retired I.A.S. officer.
