PCL: Resolute ‘Tage’ anchors Jaguars to 209-8
SUMMARY: Guyana Jaguars 209-8 (Tagenarine Chanderpaul 66*, Kevin Sinclair 43, Christopher Barnwell 32; Kemar Roach 4-28, Jomel Warrican 2-17, Jonathon Carter 2-31)
A defiant half-century from Tagenarine Chanderpaul was the rescuing act for Guyana Jaguars as they ended day one of their Four-Day clash with Barbados Pride on 209-8 at the Kensington Oval.
Chanderpaul dropped anchor, batting the entire day to score an unbeaten 66 from 274 balls (8x4s), while Kevin Sinclair, in his debut match, made 43 (6x4s; 1×6) in an 81-run partnership which thwarted the inroads of Pride during the post-lunch session.
Nial Smith is the other unbeaten batsman on 17.
Sinclair, who looked set to score a half-century in his maiden outing, fell late in the day’s play, going after Jomel Warrican to be caught at long-on.
Two balls later, Veerasammy Permaul (0) was pouched at silly mid-off and Pride regained the upper hand.
Earlier, the menacing Kemar Roach reduced Jaguars to 14-3 before Chanderpaul and Christopher Barnwell added 53 for the fourth wicket.
Chandrapaul Hemraj (4), Leon Johnson (0) and Vishaul Singh (4) were dismissed by Roach, who had 3-7 from seven overs in the first session.
In the said session, Chanderpaul was dropped on 10 off the bowling of Chemar Holder in the 21st over and three balls later, Barnwell was put down on 24.
Jaguars reached lunch at 61-3 with Barnwell on 29 and ‘Tage’ 16, however, Barnwell only added three to his score after play resumed.
A 33-run stand between Raymon Reifer (20) and Chanderpaul got the defending champions to 100-4 when he fell and soon after Anthony Bramble (8) went.
Play resumes at 10:00h on Friday.
