Turbo football: Fruta Conquerors U-20 and GFC to contest final

The pundits’ intuition became reality Sunday evening when Fruta Conquerors Under-20 and Georgetown Football Club disposed of their opponents to reach the final of the Turbo Energy Drink Football Tournament.

The scoreline of both matches indicates a generally one-side affair, however, the outcomes were expected given the quality of the two winning teams at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue.

The first semi-final was won by the talented bunch of youngsters from Conquerors in an impressive 2-0 triumph over Pouderoyen.

After a goalless first half, Wayne Barker and Ryan Hackett ensured the second was not the same. Both sealed their chances with Barker netting in the 61st followed by Hackett in the 80th.

The second semi-final saw a Kelsey Benjamin’s double leading GFC to a 5-2 thumping of former champions Northern Rangers.

Benjamin, a senior national player, made both of his inroads in the first half, netting in the 14th followed by another in the 45th.

Goals also came from Adrian Aaron (18th), Ralph Paris (49th) and Kevin Baptiste (90+4). Damien Williams scored both for Rangers. His goals came in the 33rd and 66th.

The final and third-place playoff will be contested on January 26 at the aforementioned venue.

The finalists will battle for the $400,000 first place, while second to fourth will pocket $200,000, $100,000 and $50,000 respectively. Individual prizes will also be awarded to the Most Valuable Player, Highest Goalscorer and Best Goalkeeper.
