Winfer Gardens teacher, parent charged after school brawl
A teacher of the Winfer Gardens Primary school and a parent on Wednesday appeared before Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court charged with assault causing actual bodily harm and unlawful wounding, respectively.
The parent, 42-year-old Charmaine DeMendonca of Grove House Scheme, East Bank Demerara, pleaded not guilty to unlawfully wounding her son’s class teacher, Yolanda Jackson on November 27, 2019, at the Winfer Gardens Primary school.
She was released on $30,000 bail while the 31-year-old teacher denied that she assaulted DeMendonca on the same day. She was released on $20,000 bail.
Both women will return to court on January 29, 2020.
The News Room had reported that the parent physically assaulted the teacher on school grounds following reports that her child was beaten by the teacher.
The incident occurred around 8:30hrs inside a Grade One classroom.
The teacher had explained that the angry mother approached her and claimed that she had beaten her child to the point of leaving marks on the child’s skin.
Jackson, however, claims that she never assaulted the child and she informed the parent of same.
