Berbice man found hanging after attempting to kill wife

A mother of one of Bush Lot Village, East Berbice-Corentyne remains in a critical condition after she was brutally chopped by her husband, who was later found hanging.

Twenty-four-year-old Nalesha Ragoonauth was chopped to her neck, wrist and forearms following an argument with 27-year-old Ganesh Narine.

The incident occurred between 22:00hrs and midnight Friday.

The News Room understands that the couple had moments before returned from a birthday celebration at a neighbour’s house when an argument ensued during which Narine threatened to kill Ragoonauth.

The News Room was told the 8-year-old son of Raghoonauth was awakened by the loud commotion to find Narine armed with a cutlass and the gruesome sight of his mother covered in blood.

The injured woman managed to walk out of the house but collapsed shortly after. She was picked up by neighbours and taken to the Port Mourant Hospital but was later transferred to the New Amsterdam Hospital.

The Police were informed and arrived shortly after when they discovered Narine’s lifeless body hanging in the bedroom.

Police did not find any marks of violence on the body which is now at the Ramoo’s Funeral Home.
