Fifty-year-old Sean Bacchus walked out of the Sexual Offences Court a free man after a 12-member jury returned a unanimous verdict, acquitting him of a rape charge.

Bacchus was on trial before Justice Jo-Ann Barlow at the High Court, where the jury found him not guilty of engaging in sexual activity with a six-year-old girl on July 27, 2018, at a location on the East Bank of Demerara.

It is alleged that the child was left in his care when he allegedly raped her. The child later told her mother and the matter was reported to the Police.

Bacchus was represented by attorney-at-law Clyde Forde while the State was represented by prosecutors Teriq Mohammed and Mandel Moore.

The judge warned Bacchus to stay out of trouble and to stay away from the victim.
