Fire contained at GPHC’s Psychiatric Ward
The Guyana Fire Service Wednesday morning managed to contain a fire at the psychiatric ward of the Georgetown Public Hospital.
The News Room understands that the fire was reportedly started by one of the patients in the ward at around 9 hours 15 at the Thomas and New Market Street location.
Staff at the hospital used fire extinguishers to put out the blaze.
The psychiatric ward is located in the bottom flat of the three-storey medical block building.
When the News Room arrived at the scene, the firefighters appeared to have the situation under control and all patients, doctors and nurses were evacuated.
Five fire tenders were at the scene.
