The cricket development department of the Guyana Cricket Board, in pursuit of immediately answering the dire call for development of Cricket in Upper Demerara, has donated a large quantity of playing equipment to the Upper Demerara Cricket Association.

Receiving on behalf of the Association was president Jermaine Figueira.

The presentation featured Figueira, Territorial Development Officer Colin Stuart, and his assistant Kavita Yadram, who is also the administrator of the Demerara Cricket Board.

Figueira, in brief remarks, thanked the Guyana Cricket Board for its contribution at such short notice to ensure that the youth of Upper Demerara benefit significantly from this gesture.

He further stated that he would liaising with the GCB for further collaborations on cricket development matters in Linden. Discussions are already on the way for constructions of two clay wickets at Mckenzie Sports Club and Linden Technical Institute grounds.

Stuart noted the Guyana Cricket Board’s delight in making this contribution to the Upper Demerara region “since we believe there is a wealth of talent in this community that can be nurtured under a well-managed arrangement.”

He added, “We are confident that you, Mr. Figueira, and your supporting colleagues, will be able to positively address the development and empowering needs of the said region. Despite this contribution carrying significant monetary value, it is a notch-under the invaluableness of the Board in recognising the need for Cricket development in Linden, which is a remarkable intervention and manifestation of the board’s commitment to its mandate.” (A Guyana Cricket Board Press Release)
