Ramdhani siblings among the medals in latest tourney

The Ramdhani siblings, Narayan and Priyanna, were among the medals in the latest Alberta Colleges Athletics Conference (ACAC) tournament at King’s University in Canada.

This is the third part of the ACAC Series. Narayan, playing for King’s University, won bronze in the Men’s Doubles, while Priyanna, playing for Olds College, won two in the Women’s Singles and Women Doubles.

WOMEN’S SINGLES (Priyanna Ramdhani)

Round One: gained a bye

Quarter-Final: defeated Kaitlyn Gee (Nait) 21-8, 21-4

Semi-Final: lost to Eyota Kwan (Nait) 21-14, 21-7

Third Place: defeated Cecillia Wolski (Kings) 21-17, 21-9

WOMEN’S DOUBLES (Priyanna Ramdhani and Laynce Donaldson)

Quarter-Final: defeated Krisha Mejica and Cecilla Wolski (Kings) 18-21, 23-21, 21-18

Semi-Final: lost to Johnna Rymes and Takeisha Wang (Concordia) 21-7, 21-10

Third Place: defeated Samantha Hsu and Ivy Ung (Nait) 21-17, 21-18

MEN’S DOUBLES (Narayan Ramdhani and Alex Stewart)

Round One: gained a bye

Quarter-Final: defeated Rylan Head and Beau Stevenson (Olds) 21-9, 21-15

Semi-Final: lost to John Li and Smit Patel (Nait) 21-14, 21-12

Third Place: defeated Noah Jeffrey and Troy Morgan (Olds) 21-18, 21-17

Narayan and Priyanna are slated to next compete in the Provincial Championship in two weeks in Edmonton, with a chance of qualifying for Nationals. In the last series, Narayan was the overall champion and subsequently copped a bronze at Nationals.

Meanwhile, on the local side, the Guyana Badminton Association will host the GUMDAC Open Doubles tournament at the National Gymnasium on the weekend of February 14-17, 2020.
