A 32-year-old security guard attached to Radar Security Services, who was caught on CCTV camera breaking into another security firm, was on Wednesday sentenced to nine months imprisonment for the crime.

Marlon Persaud, of Front Road, West Ruimveldt, Georgetown appeared before City Magistrate Faith McGusty and confessed that on Tuesday last at South Road, he broke and entered the business place of Eddie Dolall and stole an electric fan and water dispenser totalling $45,000.

In court Persaud explained that he was going through some “financial difficulties” and someone asked him to “fetch” some things out of an office.

According to reports on the day in question, Persaud was on duty at his work place, but left and went to Delta Security firm. He was caught on CCTV cameras removing the articles mentioned in the charge from the Delta office.

The matter was reported to the police and Persaud was nabbed by the police with the fan in his possession.

The unrepresented man begged the court for leniency and explaining to the court that he had prior convictions.

The Magistrate, after considering the case sentenced Persaud to serve nine months imprisonment.

In 2016, Persaud was sentenced to serve 3 years imprisonment for wounding an inmate at the Camp Street prison. At the time he was serving a 56-month jail term for robbery.
