Shopkeeper charged with murder of Linden man

A 49-year-old Shopkeeper was remanded to prison Friday for the murder of Raymond Leitch, who was shot and killed during a gambling session in Cuyuni, Region Seven on Monday.

Ceon David of Haslington, East Coast Demerara appeared before the Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan and was not required to plead to the charge which alleged that on February 3, 2020, at Quartzstone Backdam, he murdered Leitch, a gold miner of Amelia’s Ward Linden, Region Ten.

David was remanded to prison until February 26, 2020.

Police Headquarters had revealed that at about 12:30hrs, the men along with two others were “gambling cards” when an argument ensued over $20,000 which David claimed he won.

Shortly after, a scuffle erupted and the friends were separated and proceeded to their respective shops.

An eyewitness told the News Room that David stood in his shop and discharged his 9mm Taurus Pistol in the direction of Leitch’s shop, striking him to the chest.

David is said to be the holder of a firearm permit for Platinum Security Company and carries a 9mm Taurus Pistol.

Leitch summoned a helicopter from Georgetown but succumbed before its arrival. He was subsequently taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

David was arrested at the Ogle Airport.
