Eccles taxi driver robbed of car at knifepoint

Police are on the hunt for four men who robbed a 26-year-old taxi driver of his black and white Allion motorcar PPP 2303 on Friday night at Vryheid’s Lust, East Coast Demerara.

The News Room understands that Mark Cornelle was at the Double ‘D’ taxi service when the four suspects arrived at around 20:30hrs and requested a taxi to go to Shirley Field, West Ruimveldt, Georgetown.

On the way there, the driver said the four men then indicated that they wanted to go to Vryheid’s Lust instead and directed him through a road when he realized it was a dead end.

When Cornelle stopped the car, one of the suspects seated behind him choked him and placed a pocket knife to his left side abdomen.

The bandits took away his Samsung J7 cellphone and $4,000 in cash.

The News Room understands that Cornelle managed to break free, ran out of the vehicle and hid in a nearby yard.

The bandits drove away with the car and Cornelle made his way to the Sparendaam Police Station.
