Cyclist killed in Mahaicony accident

Police are investigating a fatal accident which occurred on the Planters Hall Public Road, Mahaicony East Coast Demerara (ECD) resulting in the death of 57-year-old pedal cyclist, Terrence Daguiar.

Police said Daguiar of Mahaicony, ECD was proceeding west along the southern side of the road when he allegedly attempted to cross the road and was struck down by minibus BXX 3501.

The incident occurred at about 18:00hrs on Sunday.

The minibus, owned and driven by a 49-year old resident of Eccles, East Bank Demerara (EBD) was also proceeding in the same direction.

Daguiar sustained injuries to his head and neck.

He was picked up in an unconscious state by the driver of the minibus and taken to the Mahaicony Cottage Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police said a breathalyzer test was conducted on the driver but no trace of alcohol was detected; he is in custody assisting with the investigation.
