The third annual Magnum Mash Futsal competition, which continues this weekend with semi-final action, received a major boost on Wednesday when MVP Sports agreed to sponsor the third place cash incentive.

Ian Ramdeo, the Managing Director of the Sportswear Store located in the Giftland Mall, presented the $200,000 prize of organisers Esan Griffith and Edison Jefford at a simple ceremony.

Both Griffith and Jefford expressed appreciation to Ramdeo and his entity for supporting the community-based competition, which is now down to its final four teams.

Ramdeo, whose entity has been an active partner of several local sport organisations and events, said he is committed to ensuring Guyanese sportsmen and women have an opportunity to showcase their skills in a competitive environment.

“We look forward to continuing this support. We are very happy to see different tournaments, different settings for our local athletes happening so that they can continue to train and practice. Practicising is one thing, but playing games is actually a big part of the development of any sport, so this is good,” Ramdeo said.

“We would like to thank our customers who without their support we would not be able to support sports and athletes in Guyana.”

The final four teams would go head-to-head on Saturday from 20:00h at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue, with the main aim of qualifying for the grand final and stay in the hunt for the $600,000 first prize.

Still in with a chance of being crowned 2020 champions are Bent Street, Rio All-Stars, Kingston and Leopold Street. Two exhibition games would be played before Rio All-Stars confront Leopold Street and Bent Street face up to Kingston in the feature clash.

The runner-up of the tournament will pocket $400,000, while third will collect $200,000 and fourth $100,000. The cash prizes would be accompanied by trophies.
