Shimron Hetmyer Hurricanes and Sherfane Rutherford Renegades will clash on February 21 in the Golden Republic T20 Bash at the National Stadium, Providence.

The match, which forms part of activities to celebrate Guyana’s 50th year as a Republic, is being coordinated by the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) in partnership with the Ministry of Social Cohesion and the National Communications Network (NCN).

Given there will be a break in the West Indies Four-day Championship during that period, all the top local cricketers would be available, along with a few regional players.

The players will wear commemorative Republic jerseys, specifically designed for the occasion.

“This game will feature the best T20 cricketers we have available locally, and quite a few regional players have been in conversation with the Cricket Board to join the two teams and wear our colours for the event,” GCB Secretary Anand Sanasie revealed at a press conference at NCN on Thursday.

The day’s action will bowl off at 14:00h with a softball game between Regal Superstars and Ariel Speedboat, two of the top teams in the country. The hardball T20 match will start at 18:00h.

In the softball contest, G$200,000 would be given to the winner, while G$1,000,000 is set aside for the team that wins the hardball game.

Admission to the venue is G$2,000, which would give patrons access to any part of the venue. Tickets would be sold at the Guyana Cricket Board office on Regent Street from as early as Monday.

According to Sanasie, they are currently having discussions with regional players Carlos Brathwaite, Rayad Emrit and Chadwick Walton with the likelihood of them teaming up with the local players.

Marketing Manager of the National Communications Network, Dellon Murray, said the state entity is happy to partner with the various organisations in celebrating in a diverse way Guyana’s 50th Republic anniversary.

Murray informed that NCN will carry the match live on its various platforms. The full squads for the two games would be released in the coming days.
