Chain saw operator killed in Malali Backdam accident

A chain saw operator of Coomacka Mines in Linden died at the Linden Hospital Complex after he was involved in an accident on the Malali Backdam trail in Region Ten.

Dead is Keith Simmons, 43.

The News Room understands that the accident occurred at about 13:00hrs on Thursday. Simmons was standing on the front bar of an unregistered tractor owned and being driven by a 34-year-old of Malali.

The tractor was descending a hill when the driver lost control and Simmons fell and was run over by the left front wheel of the tractor and suffered severe injuries to the chest.

He was picked up in an unconscious state and taken to the Linden Hospital where he subsequently died while receiving treatment.

Meanwhile, a notice of intended prosecution was served to the driver, who is presently in police custody.

No trace of alcohol was found after the driver underwent a breathalyzer test.
