Ex-Prison Warden jailed for smuggling ganja into Camp St. Prison
A 23-year-old former Prison Warden was sentenced to three years imprisonment and slapped with a $180,000 fine by City Magistrate Rhondel Weaver for smuggling cannabis into the Camp Street Prison.
Cleon Webster of West Coast Berbice was found guilty of the charge which read that on June 14, 2019, at the Camp Street Prison, he had 120 grammes of cannabis in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.
He was on trial at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
According to reports, on the day in question, Webster reported for duty at the prison when he underwent a customary search and the drugs were found concealed in his haversack. He had denied ownership and claimed that it belonged to his sister.
