U-15 Inter-County: Ramnauth’s 94 highlights opening round

A Man-of-the-Match knock of 94 from captain Rampertab Ramnauth led Berbice to a comprehensive 206-run victory over President’s XI in the opening round of the Dave West Indian Imports and Exports’ Inter-County Under-15 tournament at Georgetown Cricket Club on Sunday.

The left-handed batsman cracked 10 fours and two maximums from the 98 balls faced, which was the pillar of Berbice pilling on 286-4 from their allotment of 50 overs. In response, President’s XI folded for 80 all out in 39.2 overs; 21 runs came in extras.

Rampertab and Avishkar Persud put on 179 for the opening stand, with Persaud making a patient 66 from 108 balls in which he struck five fours. Rashaad Gafur (30) and Sanjay Algoo with his run-a-ball 29 (3x4s) added the late impetus.

A clinical bowling performance by Berbice rattled the opposition with only three batsman reaching double figures. Afraz Kadir top-scoed with 18, while captain Stephon Sankar made 13 along with the stylish Dave Mohabir unbeaten on 13.

Pacer Shiv Harripersaud had 2-21 from his seven overs, while spinners Kumar Deopersaud took 2-16 and Matthew Pottaya had 2-10.

At the Lusignan Community Centre ground, defending champions Demerara defeated Essequibo by seven wickets. Essequibo were bundled out for 56 in 36 overs; Sachin Balgobin took 3-0 in 2.4 overs, while Nicholas Sheopersaud had 3-11 in six overs and Hemraj Harriprashad 2-6.

Shaziff Mohamed made 12, while extras accounted for 14. In the chase, Rayad Latif led the charge with 25 (2x4s) as Demerara won by seven wickets, reaching their target in 15.4 overs; Sheopersaud chipped in with an unbeaten 13.
