Guyana, Nicaragua post second straight win in Concacaf Men’s U-20 Qualifying
Guyana and Nicaragua each collected victories on Monday night to continue their perfect record to start Group A of the 2020 Concacaf Men’s Under-20 Championship Qualifying at the Nicaragua National Football Stadium in Managua.
In the day’s opening match, Guyana marched to their second straight win with a 3-0 final score over St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
Osafa Simpson was the key figure for the Golden Jaguars, as he scored on each side of halftime in the 35’ and 47’ to give Guyana a 2-0 lead.
Omari Glasgow, who scored in Guyana’s opening win over Montserrat, then tallied for the second straight game in the 68’ to complete the scoring.
The second match of the day saw hosts Nicaragua take down Montserrat 4-0. Just like in their opening win against the U.S. Virgin Islands, the Pinoleros raced to a fast start and were up 1-0 in the 4’ through Harold Medina.
Two days after scoring a second-half hat trick against U.S. Virgin Islands, Edry Centeno got his first goal against the Emerald Boys with a goal in the 18’.
Medina then hit pay dirt again later in the half in the 31’, lifting Nicaragua to a comfortable 3-0 lead with still almost a full hour to play.
Centeno then notched his fifth goal of the tournament to extend the Nicaragua lead to 4-0 in the 54’. From there, the Nicaragua defense took over and nailed down the clean sheet victory. (Concacaf)
