The Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA) on Friday afternoon launched a 50%-off Republic promotion to give a discount to persons who would have bought lands between October 1, 2019, to February 29, 2020.
The persons eligible are those who bought lands for $2.5M or less.
At a short press conference at the Ministry’s boardroom, Minister Annette Ferguson noted that the issue faced by the Ministry over the years is a low occupancy rate. It is her expectation that after giving persons a discount, they will have more monies available to begin building their home.
“This initiative is another attempt at opening the door for applicants to eventually build their dream house in a short space of time,” Ferguson said.
He said the Ministry will absorb the cost of the discount.
According to Chief Executive Officer of the CH&PA, Lelon Saul the initiative will cost the Ministry some $90M.
However, he said “[the CH&PA] is just fulfilling our role and that is to provide housing for the people of this country.”
Minister Ferguson said persons were allocated lands from October 1, 2019 to February 29, 2020 at Prospect, Mon Repos, La Bonne Intention, Annandale, Lusignan and Strastsphey in Region Four, Onderneeming in Region Two, Experiment in Region Five, Fort Ordinance and Hampshire in Region Six.
