The Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC) has taken a decision to shift the first round of the Drag Racing Meet to April; a specific date is still to be decided.

Initially, March 15 was scheduled for round one of Drag Racing, but according to President Rameez Mohamed, the decision to move the meet is as a result of its close proximity to the country’s General and Regional elections on March 2.

“In the interest of having all persons fully prepared, along with getting a full list of sponsors and another a large turnout of patrons, we felt it is best to shift the date so we can have the best possible meet,” Mohamed explained to News Room Sport on Friday.

He added, “It is the election period and we want to be fair to our competitors and fans who maybe be preoccupied. We want them to have ample time after to prepare for the version of the sport which is growing significantly.”

Pushing the event to the next weekend was improbable, since March 21 is currently slotted for round one of Go-Kart action at GT Motorsports.

For the year, GMR&SC has hosted an Endurance Race meet and Circuit racing at the South Dakota Circuit.
