The People’s Progressive Party (PPP) has filed an injunction in the High Court which restrains the Guyana Elections Commission from declaring unverified results of the March 2, 2020, general and regional elections and to compel the Returning Officer to comply with the legal process of verification.

The PPP filed the injunction through Attorney Anil Nandlall. A court-martial accompanied Nandlall to the GECOM Command Centre at High and Hadfield Streets, Georgetown and was expected to serve the order on the Chief Elections Officer Keith Lowenfield.

A copy of the injunction which the News Room has seen revealed that the injunction is seeking to restrain GECOM and its agents from in any manner declaring the total number of valid votes of electors for each List of Candidates recorded in the Guyana National and Regional Elections unless the Returning Officer Clairmont Mingo and the Chief Elections Officer, Keith Lowenfield, comply with and ensures the compliance of the process set out by the provision” in section 84 of the Representation of the Peoples Act.
