Leader of the Peoples Progressive Party (PPP) Bharrat Jagdeo on Wednesday afternoon urged Guyanese to remain calm and await guidance as the country awaits the completion of the elections process towards the declaration of a winner in the March 02 general and regional elections.

The PPP had won six of nine Regions and was ahead by 52,000 votes when the vote count for Region Four became engulfed in controversy after parties protested that fictitious numbers were being used to give the APNU+AFC Coalition a victory.

“I want to assure Guyanese that we are fighting tirelessly against the attempted coup by the APNU+AFC, GECOM operatives and elements of the police force,” Jadgeo said in a Facebook post.

He added: “We are not alone in this struggle for decency and freedom. The international community and many Guyanese organizations and individuals are part of the fight. At some point in time, you too may have to join this fight. Stay calm and await guidance.”

Jagdeo also urged all to “please take all the necessary measures to stay safe from the coronavirus.”

The High Court has granted an injunction blocking a national recount of the votes cast in all regions under the supervision of a CARICOM high-level team.

Various parties are seeking to have the injunction thrown out. The case comes up on Friday morning.
