Canal No.1 barber dies after crashing into trench
A Canal No.1 West Bank Demerara barber and a father of a 13-year-old boy is now dead after he lost control of a pick-up and drove into a trench early Tuesday.
Regional Commander Assistant Commissioner Simon McBean told the News Room that 36-year-old Ghansham ‘Ravi’ Hardyal was proceeding south on Pumpkin Dam, Canal No.1 at about 06:00hrs when he approached a wooden bridge and lost control.
The motor pickup he was driving turned turtle when it landed inside the trench, pinning Hardyal underneath.
He was extracted by public-spirited citizens and rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
His wife, Doll Hardyal told the News Room that Hardyal would usually assist a farmer in taking workers into the backdam every day and on Tuesday, he was on his way back home when the accident occurred.
Hardyal owned and operated a barbershop for some 19 years. He was described as kind and always helpful.
