Mason charged with murder of Rosignol businessman

A 21-year-old mason of Onderneeming, West Bank Demerara was on Friday last charged with the murder of Rosignol businessman, Tony Bisnauth who was shot dead outside his snackette on March 13.

Police Headquarters said that Sheldon Smith was arrested on March 16 and appeared at the Fort Wellington Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Mr Singh.

He was not required to plea to the charge and was remanded to prison until April 21.

Police have issued wanted bulletins for two other men in connection with the murder of the 78-year-old. Wanted are Medellin Orlando Evans and Carlos Evans.

Bisnauth operated the Tanjo Snackette at the Rosignol Stelling Road, West Coast Berbice, Region 5 with his wife Sunita Khanai.

His wife told the News Room that he was celebrating his birthday with close relatives and friends outside the snackette when three men, armed with two guns and a cutlass, pounced on them and demanded cash and valuables.

According to Khanai, her husband did not comply with the bandits when he was shot to the head.
