The case challenging the national of votes cast on March 02 will go to trial after High Court Judge Franklyn Holder Friday ruled that he has jurisdiction to hear the matter.

But attorneys for Opposition Leader Bharrat Jagdeo have indicated they will appeal and has asked for a stay of the proceedings; Justice Holder has not yet ruled on whether he will do so.

While the Judge ruled that he has the power to review what the Guyana Elections Commission does, he has to consider whether he can properly determine if GECOM acted rightfully or wrongfully since the law is clear that the Court cannot inquire into the deliberations of the Commission.

The full Commission had agreed to a national recount of votes cast on March 02, 2020, as per an agreement between President David Granger, Opposition Leader Jagdeo and the CARICOM Secretariat.

But APNU+AFC Candidate Ulita Moore was granted orders from the Court blocking the recount on the basis that the Commission cannot act on the agreement.
