Father of two accused of armed robberies shot by Police

A 26-year-old father of two is hospitalised at the Georgetown Public Hospital with a gunshot wound to the knee after he was shot by the Police Friday afternoon.

Police alleged that Osafo Johnson, a mason of East Ruimveldt, Georgetown is wanted for a series of armed robberies.

Ranks claimed that they spotted him at East La Penitence dam in the company of others and when they approached, Johnson whipped out a firearm and discharged several rounds in their direction.

The News Room observed in the video one of the ranks firing a shot in the air to disperse the crowd.

“The ranks quickly adapted tactical positions and one of them returned fire, hitting the suspect in the right knee,” Police Headquarters said.

Police said Johnson was disarmed of an unlicensed pistol with fourteen live rounds and one of his three male accomplices was apprehended. The incident occurred at around 14:15hrs.

Videos of the incident which were sent to the News Room showed a bleeding Johnson lying on the roadway surrounded by armed ranks and a crowd of people.

The News Room observed in the video one of the ranks firing a shot in the air to disperse the crowd.

Johnson is under guard at the hospital in a stable condition.
