The Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) on Tuesday night announced that the Cheddi Jagan International and the Eugene F. Correia International Airports will remain closed to all incoming international flights until May 1, with the exception of Cargo flights, Medivac flights and Technical stops for fuel or special authorized flights.

    See full statement below:

Georgetown Flight Information Region to remain closed

March 31, 2020. Georgetown –The Georgetown Flight Information Region (FIR) will remain closed to all international passenger flights until May 1, 2020.

This decision was made after obtaining further advice from the Ministry of Public Health and approval from Cabinet, to help stop the spread of the novel Coronavirus disease (COVID -19) and enhance public health.

Moreover, being cognizant of the tremendous increase in COVID-19 cases globally, particularly in States which are traditionally the ports of origin for passengers to Guyana such as USA, Canada, Europe, Trinidad, Panama, Suriname and Barbados, the closure of the airspace will greatly assist in minimizing the spread of COVID-19 by limiting international contacts.

As a consequence, the Cheddi Jagan International and the Eugene F. Correia International Airports will remain closed to all international flights with the exception of the following:

    • Cargo flights
    • Medivac flights
    • Technical stops for fuel only and special authorized flights

The closure of the airspace will not affect domestic flights and international overflights.

The Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) will continue to work with all stakeholders to ensure that the safety and security of the travelling public can be assured.
