The National Sports Commission (NSC) has extended the closure of its venues to the public to May 1, 2020, Director of Sport Christopher Jones confirmed to News Room on Wednesday.

On March 16, the NSC had announced the immediate closure of all of its facilities for a period of two weeks to facilitate sanitation work as a result of the coronavirus in Guyana.

Those facilities are the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall on Homestretch Avenue, the National Gymnasium on Mandela Avenue, the National Aquatic Centre at Liliendaal, the Colgrain Pool on Camp Street, and the National Racquet/Sports Resource Centre on Woolford Avenue.

According to the Sports Commission, this is in keeping with guidelines from the Ministries of the Presidency and Public Health since these facilities are generally under mass usage.

Any queries/concerns could be addressed by calling the NSC office on Homestretch Avenue on 225-6340 or 225-3560 between 08:00h and noon.

“The Department regrets any inconvenience caused, but would like to thank the public for their support and understanding,” the NSC said.
