The Opposition People’s Progressive Party (PPP) and The Citizenship Initiative (TCI) have separately launched donation campaigns to assist healthcare workers and other persons who are in need of protective gears and other items as Guyana battles the spread of the new Coronavirus.

The National Stakeholders Forum launched by the PPP to tackle COVID-19 on Saturday launched its free mask distribution campaign.

Presidential Candidate Irfaan Ali made a donation of masks ranks of the Police Force on the West Coast of Demerara Saturday morning.

In a Facebook post on his official page, Ali said the party is aiming to complete 10,000 local masks by Monday.

“We are now short on seamstresses and tailors. Please call 6249933 if you know of someone or you yourself are available. Thank You on behalf of COVID 19 National Stakeholders Forum.”

The masks are locally produced, Ali said.

Meanwhile, TCI already launched their donation drive last week which is focused primarily on healthcare workers who are on the frontline battling the disease.

Presidential Candidate, Rondha Lam posted on Facebook that the party will welcome the donation of “Bounty, Environ sanitizer, paper bags, gloves and N95 masks for our frontline workers.”

As of April 2, Guyana recorded 23 confirmed cases of COVID-19, which also includes four deaths.
