All post offices will close from Thursday until further notice; arrangements are being made with the Ministry of Social Protection for those who don’t collect their Old Age pension by then.
Public Relations Officer of the Guyana Post Officer Corporation (GPOC) Thalissa Grant-McClure said those arrangements would be publicized once an agreement is reached.
The GPOC said the temporary closure of the post offices is in light of the COVID-19 emergency measures effective April 3, 2020 – May 3, 2020.
While the offices will be closed, the GPOC stated these arrangements:
- Bulk mail will be accepted on April 16 & 17, 2020. Notices will be publicized and sent to the relevant agencies.
- Treasury pensions will be paid on April 22 & 23, 2020, at all Post Offices from 09:00 hrs. to 15:00 hrs. (Treasury pensions do not include Old Age Pensions)
The GPOC said it will continue to update its website and social media pages with information during this period.
