The Civil Defence Commission (CDC) on Tuesday received 70 bags of 30kg rice worth $208, 250 from the Saj Rice Group Incorporated, a $200,000 cheque from David Persaud Investments Limited and a $500,000 cheque from the Jagmohan family.

This is to aid in the distribution of food supplies to communities across the country to ensure that every household receives support.

Director-General of the CDC Lieutenant Colonel Kester Craig in a Facebook post said these donations will help boost the CDC’s efforts during Guyana’s fight against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

The CDC began its distribution of food hampers on Sunday last in Plastic City, West Coast Demerara and Tiger Bag, Georgetown.

The distribution continued Monday in Riversview, East La Penitence Georgetown and to residents between Dantzig and Fairfield in Region Five.

The CDC welcomes all donations and reminds citizens who wish to make a contribution that they can do so at its Head Office at Thomas Lands between 09:00hrs and 15:00hrs daily while cash and cheques can be deposited to its Republic Bank Account 96356519938.
