The Ministry of Public Health launched a software application on Tuesday which allows persons to screen themselves for the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) and access timely information on Guyana’s cases.

The application was launched during the Ministry’s daily update on the COVID-19 situation in Guyana. It can be accessed at covid19.health.gov.gy

Julius Simon, the Information Systems Consultant and lead developer noted that “the purpose of this application is to enhance the fight that we’re putting forward to stem the flow and spread of this virus.”

Listed on the software are hotline numbers, health check, COVID-19 information relating to Guyana and an option to provide information to health officials on the status of family members.

The health check option is a screening tool to allow persons to simulate a hotline phone call so you will go through the same questions you will be asked when you call the hotline, and at the end of it, you will be to receive an assessment of what to do next.

The details placed into the portal will be recorded and available to be analyzed by the Ministry of Public Health staff so that they can provide a targeted response.

All of the suspected cases are visible and forwarded directly to the health authorities for further action, Simon explained.

As it relates to reports on family members, those who are deemed high-risk will be highlighted for further action.

The software also allows persons to provide feedback to the Ministry.
