Pedal cyclist struck down, killed by minibus

A 25-year-old minibus driver is in Police custody following the death of a 32-year-old pedal cyclist who was struck down on the Houston Public Road, East Bank of Demerara on Monday afternoon.

Dead is Rudy Nurse of Lance Gibbs Street, Queenstown, Georgetown.

Police Headquarters revealed that Nurse was riding south on the extreme western side of Houston Public Road while the minibus BYY 1311 was proceeding north on the eastern drive lane.

It is alleged that Nurse crossed the road and ended up in the path of the vehicle when the collision occurred. The accident occurred at around 15:45hrs.

Nurse was picked up in an unconscious state and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police Headquarters said that the driver of 19th Street, Diamond, EBD passed a breathalyzer test.

Investigations are ongoing.
